Michael Danna is one of the most amazing songwriters has given art of the soundtrack in the last twenty years. Their scores are so powerful that when the film is mediocre you think is better than it is for the greatness that prints his music. This is what happens with "Where the Truth Lies," a film that had all the cards to be great and eventually fails at the wrong Bluffing.
The film rotates around a mysterious corpse and two actors, close friends, which for unknown reasons twenty years ago. The mystery is attractive and the setting of the 50's and 70's (separated visually by a superb work of photography) and Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth are perfect in their roles. But the film falls several decisions, the interpretation of Alison Lohman, with a voice inflections to discard femme fatale total erotic scenes of questionable taste that indicate that that was filmed is not morbid, but a voyeur , and a final resolution as expected as unsatisfactory.
Anyway, the film has enough elements to sustain interest and to provoke curiosity about other work of this director, because after a pulse is different and intriguing. And half the scores are made to the great Danna. (Neath: BFI)
